Having used AfterShokz and then Shokz OpenComm headsets since 2021, I was eager to try the new OpenMeet UC headset as soon as it launched in Australia. The audio quality is a noticeable step up, while still maintaining Shokz’s legendary mic clarity. Unlike many other headsets that overly process mic audio with aggressive noise cancellation, OpenMeet UC delivers the most natural voice capture I’ve come across.

However, one major downside: if you’re balding (like me), this headset lacks grip and slides off far too easily—even with a slight forward tilt. I learned this the hard way while crossing a busy road when it fell off and hit the pavement. After that, I reluctantly switched back to my OpenComm. It’s a shame that an otherwise excellent headset has such a design oversight, especially for users who don’t have a full head of hair to provide extra grip. If you do, you’ll likely have no issues—but for those of us with more scalp than hair, it’s a dealbreaker.

I have found that working all day with them on works well on the phone and laptop. Best headphones for work I have tried so far.

I tried them them work, exercise and listen to audio books lying down.

Positives:
1. Openmeet is great for work where you do not bend your head over as it can fall of your head, is very comfortable to have on the whole day. I found it more comfortable than when I used Bose over the ear headphones.
2. Crisp clear voice when talking via blue tooth on the phone or via USB A when using a computer or laptop.
3. High fidelity sound via both bone conduction and speakers. Louder than open comm 2. Better high sounds than open comm 2.
4. Bluetooth 5.3 has a better range than open comm 2.
5. I like that you can mute yourself by pressing a button on your boom mic.
6. I like changing the volume with 1 button moving up or down as well as turn it on.
7. Better than Open comm 2 for microphone sound clarity.

Postive/Negative
1. Hear ambient sounds. I find it good to hear what is happening around me. If you want to noise cancelling then this is not the right head phones for you.
2. The boom mic pics up a bit of ambient noise.

Downsides
1. Compared to open comm 2, falls of easier.
2. The position if lying down can only be on the back of the head, does not work on the side, with open comm 2 you can be on your side and listen.
3. The band is hollow when can flip over when it is on your head. (I shave my head)
4. Open comm 2 is lighter and slimmer and I do not notice it is there, because the openmeet falls off easier I have to be careful when changing positions (if I head is not upright position it falls off. walking is fine, running feels unstable)

How not to sound like a "fan boy" when I've bought into the brand across running and normal day?? That's hard - so here it is - my view from the view of someone already familiar with Shockz.
I work across multiple offices - needing to plug in from home, 2-3 days in a clients' office and 2 or so days in an open office (we-works style of office set up). Im always on the phone or reviewing video content for my line of work. I previously used Over-the-Ear noise cancelling headphones but found I was talking too loudly, background noise was picked up too easily and my ears got way too hot.
OpenMeet headphones allowed me to continue with my usual day - but in a more seamless manner. That may sound over the top - but I don't have to shut off completely from my surroundings, people on the other end of the line are not disrupted with background noise and I don't need to take the headphones off between calls. The sound is surpisingly good and the battery life means Im not constantly plugging back into power. Quality set of headphones worth the investment.
