Game-Changer for Runners: Shokz Headphones Are a Must-Have!

I absolutely love my Shokz Running Headphones! As someone who runs regularly, I was looking for a pair that would let me enjoy music while staying aware of my surroundings, and these headphones deliver. The sound is surprisingly clear, and I love that they stay comfortable and secure even on long runs. The battery life has been fantastic, lasting through my entire workout without a hitch. They’re sweat-proof and tough, which makes them perfect for all kinds of weather. I’m so glad I found these—they’ve made my workouts more enjoyable and safer! Highly recommend!

OpenRun Shokz Review: Hear Both Dom Dollar’s Drop and That Rogue Scooter

After much deliberation (and far too many hours reading reviews), I finally pulled the trigger on the OpenRun Shokz. They arrived at my doorstep with impressive speed—faster than I can lace up my running shoes some days.

First Impressions: Lightweight and Surprisingly Comfortable

The first thing I noticed? These things are light. Almost suspiciously so. Like, “Are these actually going to work?” light. But once I put them on, I forgot they were there—until the music started playing, and suddenly I had a personal soundtrack without the earplug effect.

Sound + Safety = Genius

The magic of bone conduction means I can blast my music and still hear the world around me. Perfect for running and riding—because while I do love a good pump-up playlist, I also enjoy not getting blindsided by an e-bike moving at questionable speeds.

Tropical-Proof: Built for Sweat, Rain, and Probably a Monsoon

I live in the tropics, where “light exercise” is just another term for “sweating buckets.” Between the humidity, rain, and my general refusal to train indoors, I needed headphones that could handle a bit of weather abuse. These? No problem. They laugh in the face of moisture.

Battery Life & Charging: Faster Than My Post-Run Shower

Quick charge time is a blessing when you realize—right before a run—that you forgot to plug them in. A few minutes of charging buys enough playtime to get me through most workouts.

The Verdict?

The OpenRun Shokz are my new go-to for training. They sound great, stay put, and keep me aware of my surroundings—all while surviving sweat and storms. 10/10, would buy again (but hopefully won’t need to for a long time).

good bone conduction, annoying ui.

decent headset, but the band around the back of the head is irritating for people with thicker necks, and the voice yelling charge me every few minutes when on low battery is really annoying.
I am however a big fan of the open ear bone conduction audio.

Really happy

I had been looking online at Shokz and wasn't confident as to which option to choose but luckily found myself in Harvey Norman where they had various styles to try on and play with. I recommend doing this if you can as it helped me pick the right style and size for me. I still ordered directly from Shokz and the delivery was much faster than advised. I had purchased them primarily for work as I need to hear my surroundings for safety reasons. However, I have enjoyed them much more than I was expecting and have also been using them for running. Because they are waterproof they are easy to wipe down after a run to get rid of sweat and sunscreen and have no "seams" or grooves to get dirt in like some other big brand products that I have do. I do miss not using headphones that automatically stop music when you take them off or turn themselves on/off automatically, however I am still really enjoying using them and have recommended these to other runners.

Two Years with OpenRun: A Real-World Review Focused on Awareness

I've used the OpenRun for two years now across various activities. Here's my detailed experience with them:

**Spatial Awareness**
This turned out to be more useful than I expected:
- Cycling: You can hear traffic and pedestrians clearly, including quiet electric vehicles approaching from behind
- Running: Easy to hear footsteps and other runners/cyclists
- Daily Tasks: Unexpectedly useful for housework and gardening - you can hear if someone calls out or when the dryer finishes
- Walking: Stay aware of surroundings while listening to content
- Conversations: No need to remove anything when someone starts talking to you

**Technical Performance & Sound Quality**
The bone conduction technology works differently from regular headphones:
- Podcasts: Very clear, works well for voice content
- Audiobooks: Clear and easy to understand
- Music: Okay for background audio during activities, but bass is limited
- Calls: People I talked to said they could hear me clearly outdoors

**Battery Life**
Pretty straightforward results:
- Got about 7.5 hours of playback at 70% volume
- Quick charge does work - 10 minutes gave me roughly 1.5 hours
- Takes about an hour to fully charge
- Battery has stayed consistent

**Build Quality**
The titanium frame holds up well:
- Handled some drops without issues
- Deals with sweat fine
- Works in light rain
- No damage from being carried in bags

**Comfort**
At 26g, they're light enough that I often forget they're there. The standard size fits me well. I can wear them for several hours without discomfort.

**Things That Could Be Better**
- Music quality isn't great if you're used to good headphones
- Not much bass
- Sometimes have to reconnect Bluetooth
- The case is pretty basic

**Value**
They're expensive at $219, but they do what they're designed for well. The safety aspect while cycling and running has been genuinely useful, and being able to hear what's going on around me while listening to podcasts is practical for everyday use.

These aren't meant to replace regular headphones for music. They're for times when you want to listen to something while staying aware of your surroundings. After 2 years I use them regularly for cycling, running, and often just walking around doing errands.

A: Yes, the OpenRun has two microphones on the right side, which can be used to answer and make phone calls.
Q: Can I use OpenRun as a hearing aids?
A: OpenRun is a Bluetooth headphone which needs to be connected with a playing device for audio listening. Hearing aids work by amplifying sound from surroundings. We advise you to pair the OpenRun with your phone and using an amplifier app, like Petralex to assist with hearing.
Q: Can I wear OpenRun and glasses together?
A: Definitely you can. The OpenRun designed with a full titanium hook and there is enough space to wear both OpenRun and glasses.
Q: Can I charge OpenRun while it is wet, and will it cause any damage?
A: OpenRun is IP67 certified and can survive underwater for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter without damage. We recommend wiping the earbuds with a dry cloth and keeping them dry before storing or charging. In addition, if OpenRun’s sweat-sensing charging alarm detects that the charging port is wet, it will vibrate to remind you. We recommend that you dry the charging port with a soft paper towel before charging. After the port is dry, it can be charged.

① This data was the result of a test that was conducted using OpenRun paired with iPhone 12mini (version: ISO14.3).
Test conditions: Paired OpenRun with iPhone 12mini, adjusted to the standard EQ mode, played the music App on the IOS system, play the Lenka-Trouble is a Friend (Hi-Res). wav file, and set the volume to around 80% of the maximum volume.
Test content: OpenRun battery was fully discharged and then charged to 100%. The audio file was played until running out the battery life.
The test result showed that the OpenRun had a continuous playback time of up to 8 hours. In actual use, battery life depends on device settings, environment, usage, and many other factors.
