Shokz OPENRUN PRO 2 are category killers in the open-ear marketplace.
I'm a thru-hiker and trail runner, and I run a small business. When I'm running trails and ascending rugged terrain, I'm also taking work calls. I’m often on the trail for 10-12 hours a day. I wanted to listen to music/podcasts and take phone calls but still be aware of the environment around me. I didn't want an in-ear option due to ear fatigue and poor hygiene when using them for long periods.
I spent 3 months delving into every review I could find about this product category. Other products I researched included Bose Ultra Open Earbuds, Mojawa HaptiFit Terra Smart Sports Headphones, TRI 2 Multi-Sport Waterproof Bone Conduction Headphones, Suunto Wing, Soundcore AeroClip. There was no product better reviewed overall, nor better quality, than the Shokz OPENRUN PRO 2.
For over a month, I have worn the Shokz OPENRUN PRO 2 for nearly 12 hours every day, and covered more than 800 kilometres (560 miles) on dusty trails. Most of this has been in hot, humid conditions.
Comfort 10/10
I ordered the standard size (as per website instructions). These fitted perfectly from day one. I was amazed how they almost floated on my head. Apart from the sound, I'm not aware they are there. They excel in high sweat environments, such as running or hiking in hot conditions. They have never even come close to shifting position on my head. Even after wearing these full-time from sun-up till sun-down, I have never had any discomfort. I am also able to wear sunglasses, hat, and sun hoodie at the same time, and none of these has interfered with the fit.
Sound quality 10/10
The only caveat I will give this score is that you simply can’t expect deep, immersive bass with open-ear technology. This is a significant difference when comparing these with say AirPods with noise cancellation. However, this lack of bass and immersive sound is kind of what you are trying to avoid when opting for open-ear technology. You want to be in tune with your environment. The sound is great. Music is crisp and clear, and a wide variety of songs are enjoyable. If you turn the sound up, you can obtain a slightly more immersive experience if desirable. Podcasts are excellent. It’s like the people talking are standing right next to you.
Ease of use 10/10
I took them out the box, charged them, spent 2 minutes reading the quick start guide, and then I was off and running. Literally. There are two buttons located on the right-hand side, the volume up button (+) and the volume down button (-). Hold down the + volume button, and they turn on and sink. Hold down the – volume button and they turn off. Obviously, tapping either of these buttons also controls the volume, up and down. Simple. There is only one button on the left. Tap this once to pause a song/podcast. Tap once to answer a phone call. Tap twice to go to the next song. Tap three times to go back to the previous song. It’s that simple. The track you are playing automatically pauses when you take a call. When you end the call, the track immediately starts playing from where you left it. Beautiful. Simple. Everything you need. Nothing you don't.
Syncing 10/10
They sync first-time, every-time with my iPhone. They sink within seconds, unlike other products that can take a long time, or seem to falter depending on which way the wind is blowing. They have have never dropped out after syncing. They are solid as a rock.
Battery life 10/10
I’m on the trails for 10-12 hours most days. Not once have I even had a warning that the battery is running low. I recharge them each evening with a portable battery pack, and I’m good to go another 12 hours the next day. The rapid charge feature that gives you 2+ hours of battery life from only 5 minutes of charging is also genius, as we can all forget to charge devices from time to time.
Phone calls 10/10
Answering phone calls is easy, by simply pressing the left multi-function button once. Audi is crystal clear. I’ve had no issues with people hearing what I’m saying, even in windy conditions.
Colour 10/10
The orange colour may be a bit polarizing for some, but I really like it. I’m much less likely to lose them at campsites. Locating them amongst the clutter of my house is also easier. An unexpected benefit of the orange colour is that others know you are wearing an audio device. They can clearly see you are wearing headphones from a decent distance away. I’ve been in situations before when I’m listening to music, but passers-by don’t realise this and want to talk to me. The bright, orange colour lets others know that I want to be in my own zone, and not to disturb me unless they really need to.
Weather proofness 10/10

It is not suitable for sauna and showering. While showering, water vapor can enter the internal components of the headphones through the seams, leading to water ingress.
The recommended operating temperature for our headphones is between 0°C and 45°C. Using them in semi-enclosed, high-temperature environments like saunas could pose safety risks.
2. Press and hold the Volume + Button until the LED Indicator flashes red and blue alternately. Audrey will say "pairing" indicating pairing mode.

Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety, then turn off "Reduce Loud Audio".
Note: If Screen Time has been set up for family members, it may be restricting changes to the "Reduce Loud Audio" setting. To adjust this:
Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Reduce Loud Audio. Enable Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Reduce Loud Audio, and select Don’t Allow.
For Samsung
Go to Settings > Sounds and Vibration > Volume, click More, and turn off "Media Volume Limit".
For Android:
Go to Bluetooth settings, find Bluetooth device volume sync, and enable it.

2. Based on the test results from Shokz Lab and mechanical formula calculations, OpenRun Pro 2 boasts a 16% decrease in clamping force compared to the previous generation product.
3. OpenRun Pro 2 is resistant to sweat and water splashes, suitable for non-aquatic sports and activities.
